Wow! my first holiday. I have to tell you for a guy like me holidays are pretty much the same as any other day. I eat, I sleep, I mess diapers, nothing new there.
What holiday is it do I hear you asking? Why a Chicago only holiday of course, Casimir Pulaski Day.
Whats that? You have no idea who Casimir Pulaski is, neither do I but I'll look him up for you.
It turns out he was a Polish American during the Revolutionary War who died. Thats about it. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure he was a true American hero, but really the only reason we have a
day off of school is because someone in Chicago felt the Poles weren't getting enough recognition.
I was watching the senate in action last night. They were debating raising the minimum wage above $5.15 and hour. I was thinking if you make $5.15 an hour for 40 hours a week, 50 weeks a year, you can earn $10,300. Did you know $9,300 is considered poverty level for one person? If you rent a $600 apartment thats $7,200 a year, leaving you $175 a month for food and water.
